Simply Youth Institute empowers peace in every young woman through finance and wellness education addressing generational poverty. Our blog is intended to inspire young women on their journey to self discovery and creating community.
Reading connects the past, present, and future. We get to loan stories from women like Maggie Lena Walker, the first Black woman in the U.S. to charter a bank, or read poetry from activist and educator, Nikki Giovanni. Reading allows us to travel into the lives of women like Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic woman whose career path was out of this world. Reading unlocks stories from Patsy Takemoto Mink, the first woman of color in Congress.
Instill peace in your life by participating in daily reading practice. Imagine that each page you turn opens new doorways. Doorways that lead to endless possibilities and new roads that only you can travel. Reading is a tranquil journey where every page you read brings forth inspirations unseen before.
We encourage you to:
- Read everyday. Try new topics, and read articles that sparks your interest. Our favorite topics are “wellness” and “finance.”
- Grab a reading wand. Pick up a pencil, use sticky notes to highlight favorite passages or words that stand out.
- Explore new methods. We love the traditional book turning method, but technology allows for all sorts of ways to digest information from podcast and audio books to graphic novels.
The most important gift reading provides is growth through knowledge, the one thing that will never be taken away from you Growth knows no limits so it is up to you to accept the challenge to open a book to enter into a new and exciting world. The world with you in it.
